In Science Class, we learned how to use a microscope, how to create Glogsters, and what the six characteristics of life. My favorite thing we did in Science Class so far was learning and using th microscopes. It was pretty fun. I also made a blog on this website called Science Solutions. It talks about science and different projects and assignments. we're also doing something called an edible cell. I'll have more on that later. My science teacher is Mrs. Poole. Click on the "Mrs. Poole " button to go to her website, or click on the "Science Solutions" button to go to my science blog.

Dissections - Sheep Eye, Frog, and SquidI'm just going to say in the beginning, sorry that I only have before and after pictures of each dissection, and the reason for that is that there was no way of me touching my without getting frog guts or dissection animal juice all over my phone.
Sheep's Eye: Our assignment in class was to dissect a sheep's eye to see the different structures of the eye, which were all exactly the same as the human eye. From this dissection, I learned that one, the eye of a sheep is similar to a human's eye, and two, the different structures of the eye. I think that doing this dissection really helped me remember the different parts of the eye for my Eye Test. For some reason, and I think it is this way for many kids, I kind of like, and dislike, dissecting animals and their parts. FROG: The frog dissection was definitely the longest and most complex dissection. From this dissection I learned the different organs and their places in a frog, and I also learned much about the human body, because the frog's organs and their functions are very similar to the human's organs and functions. This dissection will probably help me remember different organs and their functions in the future when mentioned or taught. SQUID: The squid dissection was probably the easiest dissection of the three. We were assigned to learn the body parts of a squid, and then dissect it. But, there was a surprise after you dissected the squid that I will explain at the end of the paragraph. From this dissection, I learned the different parts of a squid and their functions. Now that I have dissected three animals, or parts of an animal, I think I am a pretty good dissector. The surprise for the squid dissection was that after we were finished, we cut off the mantle of the squid, cleaned it, put it in a fryer, and ate it! Homemade calamari! I like it better with the fried batter around it, though. |

Domains and Kingdoms - GlogsterOur assignment in Science class was to create a Glogster that demonstrated and explained the three domains of life, and the Eukarya domain's kingdoms, which are Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia.
From this project, I learned what the three domains of life are, and what Eukarya's kingdoms are. I also learned how to use the updated version of Glogster, and I have to say that I kind of like the new updates. This project probably only connects with my Glogster skills, not so much any other skill. I really like using Glogster, and I definitely will consider using it the next time I have the choice of what kind of presentation I make. |

Characteristics of Living Things GlogsterOur assignment in Science class was to create a Glogster about the six characteristics of life. We then learned that a Glogster is pretty much an online poster that you can create for anything.
From doing this project, I learned how to use and create a Glogster. I also better learned about the six characteristics of life. Another thing I learned was how to even embed this Glogster into my website. Since I had to do all of this on a computer, I can now use some of the things I learned and use them in computers class or any other time I have to create a Glogster. Using Glogster has totally changed my prospective of what to use to present something. I'm glad we used and learned how to use Glogster for this assignment. I do think that using Glogster for any presentation assignment is a very good way to do it, and it's fun overall. |
Edible CellOur assignment in Science class was to do something called an edible cell. Four people, that's how many there are in a table group, have to come up with a way to represent a cell and its organelles with things that are edible. This was my group's final product ( It tasted pretty good! ). Everyone brought something so we equally contributed. I believe my group and I learned a cell's organelles better from this project. This project also worked our team - working skills and our problem solving skills, because there were some restrictions for the project. I do think it was a fun way to learn and recap on cell organelles. And yes, I do urge for Mrs. Poole, my science teacher, and Mr. Kirste, the other science teacher, to continue on with this wonderful project for future years.
